A Ugandan based Non Government Organization(NGO)- Initiative for Social and Economic Rights (ISER) has led to positive changes to health centres in Kayunga District.
After a number of advocacy work aimed to improve health services in the district, remarkable success have been achieved. ISER Community Outreach Officer Margret Nabasirye says that, the organisation has conducted Health Unit Management Trainings, Community engagements locally known as Bazaza and worked closely with the local leadership and Ministry of Health to improve service delivery at the health centres.
The most notable success is the renovation of Kayunga Hospital, the increase of staff quarters at Lugasa Health Centre III, Busaana Health Centre III as well as the improved services at the centres.
The in charge Lugasa health centre III Mr. Mukiibi Ponsianao said that the achievements of new staff quarters, antenatal ward and increase of drugs came has result of ISER’s advocacy work. He said that the trainings and routine monitoring of service delivery makes the duty bearers to act.
” Achievements or success cannot come without the committed work of ISER” said Ponsiano
He(Ponsiano) said that before ISER’s intervetion four staff were residing at the centre but now nine staff put up at the centre.
Similar story is also seen at Busaana with new staff quarters and wards under construction. The In charge Mr. Bowe said they have hope to make the centre better.
