The government and Civil Society Organization(CSOs) efforts to promote education might take longer than they could anticipate because the frontline beneficiaries of their struggle are yet understand the value of education.
In the Kumi District the education administrators have little morale to fight drunkardness in schools because they are using the local leaders and some parents as shields.”I went to arrest a drunkard teacher at Agalia Primary School but was hidden by the Local council leaders and parents within the brewery” said Mr. Otai Peter, the District Principal Education Officer.
He was addressing residents of Mukongoro Sub County in Kumi District who had turned up for community dialogue locally known Baraza.It was organized by the Initiative for Social and Economic Rights (ISER) to discuss the causes of poor performance in the district.
When our reporter visited, Kaderin Primary school, one of the teacher admitted for taking alcohol. “I take everyday but after school time and weekend” he said. However, some parents who know him says some time come into class drunk.
