Teenage pregnancy threatens education

The education officers in the Uganda are concerned over the increasing numbers of teenage in the period of school shut down over COVID-19 pandemic.

The Kumi District Education Officer Mr. Akol Stephen said in his routine visits to villages finds several girls of schools going age pregnant. He said conceive from both their age-mates and mature men.

He said the idleness resulting from the COVID-19 lock down has increases the problem and a number of girls are likely to drop out of school when schools opens.

The Uganda Non Government Organization(NGO)- Initiative for Social and Economic Rights( ISER) says they have also received reports from the Community Advocates(CAs) indicating that a numbers of girls have conceived from the different villages.

The hospital this reporter visited, medical workers also reported the increased number of girls seeking antenatal services at the health units.
